The ESF Scientific Programme ”Behavioural Ecology of Insect Parasitoids – from theoretical approaches to field applications (BEPAR)” will implement, support and coordinate a series of research activities in order to advance the theory for predicting adaptive behaviour of parasitoids and to integrate the predictions of behavioural ecology theory with knowledge on the proximate mechanisms of behaviour. In particular, BEPAR wishes to contribute to the development of field tests of the theories of parasitoid behavioural ecology and to promote the use of behavioural-ecological approach in applied research on the use of parasitoids in biological control programmes.
BEPAR is offering funding for a number of Short Visits (up to 15 days, for young* and senior# scientists) and Exchange Grants (from 15 days to 12 weeks, for young scientists) related to the scientific objectives of the Programme.
Please note that Exchange Grant applications for a duration longer than 12 weeks will not be considered.
* registered as PhD students or have obtained a PhD
# at least 10 years of experience in research
a) Undertake work of high scientific quality which is applicable to BEPAR
b) Apply to stay in a European country other than the country of origin
c) Return to the institute of origin upon termination, so that the applicant’s institute may also benefit from the broadened knowledge of the scientist (a statement on the ‘added value’ for the institute of origin should be included in the application)
d) Acknowledge ESF in publications resulting from the grantee’s work in relation to the Short Visit or Exchange Grant
Priority will be given to applicants who come from and intend to visit countries that financially support the programme (Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and Turkey). With regard to applications from Senior Scientists priority will be given where knowledge from ‘leading’ laboratories is disseminated to ‘emerging’ laboratories in the field.
Applications for Short Visit and Exchange Grants should be submitted online.
