Two innovative and complementary schemes to particularly address the issue of introducing advanced plant genomics to Eastern European countries, are proposed. Taken together, these initiatives have the potential to achieve a step-change in plant genomics in Eastern European countries. We propose to fund the generation of a limited number of Next Generation Sequencing datasets, specifically resulting from invited proposals from Eastern European countries. This will be followed up by a dedicated sequence analysis workshop, which will be open to participants across Europe, but at which the Next Generation Sequencing data obtained above will be analysed.
Location : Hinxton (UK)
Dates : 11-19/6/ 2012
Convenor : Dr. Vicky Schneider, Hinxton (UK)
Abstract:
This summer school aims to provide a comprehensive view of the main facets involved in Plant Bioinformatics specifically under the large-scale dataset production and challenges in high throughput data handling and analysis. The school will in particular focus on extracting biological meaningful information from high throughput data, therefore speakers and tutors will be asked to bring real case studies and use them also for the practical sessions.
Venue: the Center for Membrane Proteomics, the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt/Main, Germany
Organisers:Dr. Bernd Märtens, Prof. Enrico Schleiff and Prof. Ina Koch
Abstract:
The summer school consisting of a course program and a subsequent participation on an international symposium shall be available for 24 young European scientists. Only 2 participants per course shall ensure an intense atmosphere considering the current scientific problems of the participants. The students will be educated in the current methods and technologies applied for the study of physiology, biophysics and bioinformatics of photosynthetic organisms and systems. Priority and fellowships will be given to applicants from countries of the contributing member organizations (Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, and United Kingdom).
The summer school is sponsored by the European Science Foundation in the program European Networking Summer Schools ENSS (Plant Genomics & Genetics). Please note – the participants will be listed on the ESF web page. In case you apply for the summer school, you agree that your information (name and address) will be displayed on the ESF Webpage.
