This Research Networking Programme came to an end in November 2011, therefore all calls are now CLOSED
The deadlines for submission of applications are 1 March, 1 June, 1 September and 1 December each year. Please do not plan to start your visit until at least one month after the deadline.

Please note that the online system will allow applications for a maximum of 15 days. If you wish to undertake a visit of more than 15 days, please use the Exchange Grant application form.
Applicants will also need to have ready to upload a document (.pdf or .doc format, not exceeding 5MB) with the following information:
Applications should show how the visit will lead to increased insight in functional dynamics in complex chemical and biological systems. This should be done by specifying the scientific problem which will be addressed and which methods will be used. It should also be indicated why the interaction of the participating groups is expected to be essential for this and how the visit will benefit both groups and the FUNCDYN Programme. Interdisciplinary investigations emphasizing biological aspects are encouraged.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The evaluation of applications will be coordinated by the Grants sub-committee of the ESF FUNCDYN Steering Committee. Membership of the Grants sub-committee will change annually. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
a) Undertake work applicable to FUNCDYN, with preference being given to interdisciplinary investigations emphasizing biological aspects
b) Apply to stay in a European country other than the country of origin
c) Return to the institute of origin upon termination, so that the applicant's institute may also benefit from the broadened knowledge of the visiting scientist.
d) The scientific quality of the project and its relevance for achieving FUNCDYN aims
e) The CV of the applicant and the scientific quality of the hosting group
Priority will be given to applicants who come from or intend to visit countries that financially support the Programme (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, Switzerland). Priority will be give to applications where both the origin and the host institute are located in countries supporting the programme.
ESF Short Visits are reimbursed on a per diem basis of 85 EUR plus actual travel expenses up to a maximum of 500 EUR. Payment of the grant is subject to the submission of a final scientific report, original travel tickets and a signed host statement form(s), and to approval of the report by the FUNCDYN Steering Committee. Reports should normally be submitted within one month of completion of the visit.
ESF Exchange Grants are awarded on the basis of a subsistence allowance of 400 EUR per week plus actual travel expenses up to a maximum of 500 EUR. Payment of the grant is made in two stages: an advance payment of 80 per cent of the subsistence allowance (shortly to be changed to 80 per cent of the total award) with the final payment subject to the submission of a final scientific report, original travel tickets and a signed host statement form(s), and to approval of the report by the FUNCDYN Steering Committee. Reports should normally be submitted within one month of completion of the visit.
