Quantum Degenerate Dilute Systems-Bose-Einstein Condensation and Beyond (BEC2000+)

Short Scientific Visit Grants (no deadline)

Travel should be to or from a contributing countries in BEC2000+

Requests for support for short scientific visits of up to one week or more by researchers should be sent by e-mail to Professor Martin Wilkens (Chairman) Email . There is no application form and no deadline. Requests should include:

- the name and affiliation of the scientist travelling and the research group to be visited;
- the reason for the visit (justifying its length);
- provisional dates for the visit;

The total cost awarded will be reimbursed after the visit. A short scientific report on the visit will be requested after termination of the visit. The application outcome will usually be known within a few weeks.

Long Term Fellowships

The BEC2000+ Programme provides Long-term fellowships for young researchers (not older than 35 years) who intend to work in the area of quantum degenerate dilute systems, in particular Bose-Einstein Condensation and/or Fermi-degeneracy in atomic or molecular gases. The scheme aims to foster the international exchange between leading research institutions who participate in the programme.

Conditions of Eligibility:

- undertake work applicable to the BEC2000+ Programme;
- apply for a stay from one European country to another;
- Applications should involve at least one country participating in the BEC2000+ Programme.

An application should include:

- Short CV;
- List of publications;
- description of the envisaged research project;
- Statement on current status/employment;
- invitation from the hosting institution;
- 2 letters of recommendation.

The fellowship supports a 6-month stay with a grant of 1400 EUR/month. A round-trip ticket for travel between the home and host institution will be reimbursed. (travel will be refunded on the basis of APEX type airfares or 2nd class train travel for shorter distances).

Grantees will be expected to provide a written report at the end of their grant. 75% of the grant allowance will be payable one month in advance; the remaining 25% will be paid one month after the termination of the grant, subject to receipt of the grantee’s written scientific report.
