Summary
The current state of Field Emission technology has been described as ’pre-transistor.’ Indeed, the situation is analogous, as although devices can be produced, there are also many technological challenges that must be overcome before the many aspects of field emission can be exploited. However, once these technological challenges have been met, there is no reason why field emission devices may not become as all pervasive as transistor devices.
