More about this network

The objective of the network is theoretical and experimental investigation of spatial phase domains and spatial solitons in nonlinear optical systems, such as degenerate optical parametric oscillators and second harmonic generation. The milestones of

  • Experimental realization of the phase domains in resonators with second order nonlinearities

  • Development of schemes for applications of phase domains and phase solitons in analog and digital image processing

  • Search for new systems supporting phase domains and phase solitons

  • Investigation of novel possibilities of manipulation of phase domains and phase solitons.

This network should stimulate the exchange of the ideas between partners, should provide some coordination of the common research and consolidate the efforts approaching practical applications.

Besides the above-mentioned points, the revolutionary new concepts such as "application of domain-walls in optical-quantum computing" will be considered.

News/current status

The first workshop of the PHASE Network was held from 22 to 27 September in Crete (Hotel Kalimera Kriti). Report (PDF 12.6 KB )

The second annual workshop of the Network was held from 5 to 8 June 2001 in Gif-sur-Yvette, France. Report (PDF 14.6 KB)

The 3rd PHASE Workshop was held from 16 to 19 October 2002 at the Venice International University , on the Island of San Servolo, Venice, Italy.
