The conference will be held at Hotel Villa del Mare in Acquafredda di Maratea. Acquafredda di Maratea is situated on the coast, on the Gulf of Policastro, between Sapri and Maratea, about 200 km (125 miles) south of Naples and about 400 km (250 miles) south of Rome. Group transportation will be organised on arrival and departure days from and back to Sapri train station.

The origins of knowledge and how it develops in the growing child is the topic of this conference. Piaget proposed that intelligence develops out of action, and even if the answer is not as straightforward as he proposed, it reflects a deep insight into the developmental processes. Activity is at the very core of development from the principles that underlie the early structuring of the brain to the processes that enable us to represent and reflect on the world and plan our actions on it.
The conference will be divided up into several different topics including: the structuring of the brain, the early development of perception and action and cognition in children and primates, the development of perception and cognition in deviant populations, and development in artificial systems. In addition to invited lectures, there will also be posters and plenty of possibilities to discuss developmental issues.

Group Transportation & Practical Information Guide
All major trains arriving in Sapri from Rome/Naples will be met by bus to transfer you the 8 kms to the hotel. This transfer service will operate free of charge from 15.00 hours until 22.45 hours on Saturday 1 October.
Group transportation back to Sapri station will be arranged in a similar way on Thursday, 6 October.
