The conference will take place in Sant Feliu de Guixols, on the Spanish Costa Brava, 120 km north of Barcelona and 30 km south of Girona. Group transportation will be arranged from/to Barcelona airport, on arrival and departure days.
Pharmacogenetics is a rapidly growing science. It can be defined as the genetic factors implicated the variability of drug response. Its scientific bases are now strong but its clinical applications are still limited. The goal of this meeting will be to present the scientific bases of pharmacogenetics and to discuss its present and future clinical and pharmaceutical applications as well as its consequences on the health systems. It will be organized with scientific sessions, plenary lectures, round tables and posters sessions with a schedule allowing time for open discussions. The main topics will be: genome variability and consequences for drug response, new technological approaches, genetic variations in drug metabolism, transport and targets, pharmaceutical and clinical applications, implication for health systems; the meeting will end with a perspective on other biomarkers (other ”omics”). At the end of the meeting we should have a good idea of the actual position of pharmacogenetics and of the studies to perform in order to validate its clinical and pharmaceutical use.
