Assessment of the Impacts of Genetically Modified Plants (AIGM)

Travel Grants

The AIGM Programme offers travel grants for researchers in the fields of the environmental impact and biosafety of genetically modified crops, to support visits of up to three months to another European country. Applicants must be currently working in a European institute, and should preferably return to the same institute on completion of their visit, so that this institute can also benefit from the grantee’s broadened knowledge.  Priority will be given to applications involving at least one country contributing to the AIGM Programme budget (Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, United Kingdom).

Pending the outcome of a request for an extension of the AIGM Programme for 2004-2005, no further AIGM travel grants will be awarded.  A provisional indication of the success of this extension request will be known by Easter 2003.

  • Duration: up to 3 months
  • No deadline for applications: applications will be considered on a rolling basis and should be submitted at least 6 weeks before the planned start of the visit.
  • Support: travel and accommodation costs on the basis of actual costs and a small per diem (maximum 35 Euro), up to a maximum of 1750 Euro per month.
  • Applications: should be submitted by e-mail to Ms. Pat Cosgrove  with the following information:

    • name, address, telephone, fax and e-mail of applicant
    • name, address, telephone, fax and e-mail of host at the receiving institute
    • estimated budget (travel, accommodation and per diem)
    • where appropriate, an indication of additional funding for support of the visit from other sources
    • proposed dates of the visit
    • title of the proposed research project
    • a short description of your proposed project work and the aim of your visit (justifying the length)
    • a brief curriculum vitae

Applications should be supported by a letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant’s work, and a letter of acceptance from the host at the receiving institute. These letters can be e-mailed in advance, but the original should be sent to the ESF office by post. Likewise, a signed letter confirming the application should be sent by post to the ESF.

Applications should be submitted in the body of the e-mail, not as an attachment.
