Chemistry and biology can be subdivided into two main categories: structure and dynamics. By structure we mean the time-independent information about the state of a system in some form of equilibrium. Dynamics - how systems move between apparently equilibrated structures, changing their chemical composition and performing biological functions on the way - is often classified according to time scale. The focus of this Programme is on the ultrafast time scale on which energy, charge and atoms move in the course of reactions. More
