- A mini-workshop on "High Pressure Techniques" was held on 22 - 23 September 1998 in Bad Herrenalb, Germany, devoted to specific experimental techniques or theoretical models. The aim of the workshop was to demonstrate the relevance of pressure applied in transport, thermodynamic, or spectroscopic studies in order to trace and tune in detail the physics close to a magnetic instability
Organiser: Ernst Bauer (Austria)
Participants: 25

- The first International Meeting was held on 23 - 25 September 1998 in Bad Herrenalb, Germany. This meeting aimed at discussing Fermi-liquid instabilities in different systems and shedding light on the type of excitations that are responsible for the unusual behaviour by comparing macroscopic as well as microscopic experiments with theoretical models. Specifically, the following topics were discussed: magnetic instabilities in heavy-fermion and itinerant-electrons systems, unusual single-ion effects leading to non-Fermi-liquid behaviour, superconductivity at the verge of magnetic order.
Organiser: Hilbert von Löhneysen (Germany)
Participants : 55 from 11 countries
