Scientific excellence is the criterion determining membership in the ESSC. The Committee presently has 27 members representing most of the disciplines dealing with space sciences and coming from 12 European countries (renewal process ongoing). In addition, the President of COSPAR and the Chairman of the US Space Studies Board are ex officio members of ESSC.
