Research Networking Programme CONGENOMICS - Call for organising a summer school

Summer School

Conservation genomics is an exciting new field that is developing out of the merging of conservation genetics with ecological and evolutionary genomics. By using the latest genomic technologies conservation genomics can now concentrate for example on the application of genome-wide markers to reliably estimate demographic and genetic parameters in a conservation context and use gene-expression tools to study the mechanisms behind important conservation genetic processes.

We invite proposal for organising a summer (or autumn) school in 2013. We strongly encourage summer/autumn schools that focus on the practical aspects of data analyses of genomic techniques in conservation genomics, including practical sessions with analysis of data and computer excises. Data to be analysed could include data from for example NGS, RAD taq sequencing, GBS etc, ideally for non-model species.

The summer/autumn school should be aimed at early-career researchers (PhD students and postdocs) with some background knowledge in basic genetics and conservation biology and a strong interest in learning more about topics that are related to the application of genomic technologies in conservation biology. One of the main pillars should be to introduce these young scientists to the complex field of conservation genomics and familiarise them with the application of genomic techniques in conservation biology.

A maximum of Euro 30.000 is available for organization.

The summer/autumn school should have a European dimension. As the workshop is supported by the European Science Foundation (ESF), participants from contributing member countries* of this ESF network should be prioritised and only a limited number of participants from non-contributing member countries can be accepted.

Please carefully read the ESF guidelines for meeting organisers.
* contributing member countries are: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
