Organised under the umbrella of the ESF Exploratory Workshop Scheme
hybrid systems; optomechanics; trapped ions; cold atoms; NV centers
One of today’s major challenges in quantum physics and technology is to reach the same outstanding level of control as for cold atoms and ions with matter at the micro- and nano-scale. This workshop will explore innovative hybrid mechanical approaches that involve interfacing well-controlled atomic-scale quantum emitters, such as nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond or ion crystals, with high-quality micro-fabricated resonators. Cross-fertilization in this highly-interdisciplinary field will result in a roadmap for future science and technology for these hybrid devices, which promise a new era for innovations and applications in basic science and Information Communication Technologies.
