Organised under the umbrella of the ESF Exploratory Workshops Scheme
Date: 10-12 May 2012
Venue: Rome, Italy
Simulation-Optimization; Uncertainty Management; Numerical Optimization; Metamodels; Design of Experiments
The exploratory workshop aims at investigating strategies to account for uncertainty in complex systems described by computer simulations. When optimizing their performances, accounting or neglecting uncertainty may lead to completely different results; therefore, uncertainty management is a major issues in simulation-optimization. Alternative approaches have been developed, depending also on the application context, without any well-established method clearly outperforming the others. We aim to start a panel discussion on the topic, expecting significant contributions from all the participants, within an interdisciplinary environment, which will provide an added value to the workshop.
