The conference will take place at the Shonan Village Center, in the city of Kanagawa, which is situated approximately 50 km south-west of Tokyo. The center is located on a hill commanding a view of Mt. Fuji and overlooking Sagami Bay.

Functional Genomics is a rapidly expanding research area where progress is possible only if experimental and theoretical approaches are tightly integrated. The first joint ESF-JSPS conference for young researchers on Functional Genomics was held in Spain in 2003. In this follow-up workshop in Japan, the focus will be on: Proteomics - Structural Genomics - Developmental Functional Genomics - Systems Biology - Genetics and Diseases.
Lecturers come from both Europe and Japan, and the participating young researchers will be given ample opportunity to present and discuss their results.
