The conference will take place in Sant Feliu de Guixols, on the Spanish Costa Brava, 120 km north of Barcelona and 30 km south of Girona. Group transportation will be arranged from/to Barcelona airport, on arrival and departure days.

Final Programme & List of Accepted Participants

The aim of this meeting, organised under the framework of the ESF/EMBO Research Conferences, is to bring together researchers in the diverse fields of biomagnetism, medicine, spintronics, nanomagnetism, optoelectronics, microelectronics, bioinformatics and high throughput clinical diagnostics and sequencing to explore the potential of recent breakthroughs in magnetic nanotechnologies to new approaches to practical bioapplications.
The Symposium will be organised in a highly interactive format with panel and round table discussions. It is envisaged that by bringing together researchers from almost all of the existing groups which are active in the field, the opportunity for forging strong links and collaborative ties between the groups will be provided.
In addition, the commercial opportunities arising from the research will be explored. This will be the first meeting of its kind where scientists active in the field of magnetism and nanotechnology will interact with scientists active in the biotechnology area with the specific aims to promote research in the area of biomagnetism and biosensors based on molecular recognition processes, to identify new applications and opportunities for applying magnetism to the health care area and to develop closer ties between the scientific and the biotechnology business communities.

List of Invited Speakers & Accepted Participants

Abstracts, Posters & Short Oral Contributions

Selected short talks are listed in the Final Programme. All abstracts are accepted as posters. Participants selected for short talks may also bring a poster if they wish to.

Posters can be fixed with blue tack or tape onto poster panels. Poster size should be no more than 130 cm high x 130 cm wide. Use letters and drawings that can be read from approximately 100 cm distance.

Conference Proceedings

A Conference Journal in the American Institute of Physics (AIP) Conference Proceedings Series will be published. All participants are encouraged to contribute whether they have been invited or contribute to the conference with a short talk or a poster.

The AIP Conference Proceedings is a well established Series and the volume will have its own ISSN and ISBN numbers, and will be registered at the Library of Congress. The online version will be published simultaneously with the printed book, which be sent to contributing authors. All conference participants will have an unlimited on-line access to it for one year.

Participants who would like to contribute to this volume are kindly requested to send their abstract to Adrian Ionescu (ai222[at]cam.ac.uk).

Deadline for abstract submission: 21 September 2007

Format: 6-9 pages A4 for invited papers and 3-7 pages for contributed ones.

The pages will be converted into the 6x9 inch format of the conference proceeding series. For more information on the instructions on how to prepare the manuscript and the transfer of copyright agreement, which is compulsory for publishing in the journal: http://scitation.aip.org/proceedings/6x9.jsp

Authors will be informed regarding approval, modification or rejection of the manuscripts by the beginning of the conference. The editors insist on a scientifically sound and in clear English written publication with references and images with captions.

GROUP TRANSPORTATION
Two buses will be arranged on arrival day from Barcelona airport to Sant Feliu. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes, depending on traffic.

Bus departure times – Saturday 22 September: 16.30 and 18.30

Airport departure point: the buses will wait in the special bus parking area located just before the A terminal. Each bus has been requested to be at the meeting point 20-30 minutes before scheduled departure. The coaches will have a sign in the window indicating “ESF Research Conferences” for easy recognition.

Group transportation back to Barcelona airport will be arranged in a similar way for the departure day.

Bus departure times – Thursday 27 September: 12.30 and 13.30

ACCOMMODATION
Please note that SINGLE accommodation can only be guaranteed to invited speakers. All other participants will have to share a TWIN room. In case single rooms would become available at the time of the conference, rooms will be attributed on a “first come, first served” basis. Only the TWIN conference fee should be paid to the ESF when registering. The supplement for single should be paid to the venue directly. Should you wish to be put on waiting list for single accommodation, please contact Ms. Chiara Orefice.
