  • The International Lithosphere Program seeks to elucidate the nature, dynamics, origin and evolution of the lithosphere through international, multidisciplinary geoscience research projects and coordinating committees.
  • Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) The main mission of INGV is the monitoring of geophysical phenomena in both the solid and fluid components of the Earth. INGV is devoted to 24-hour countrywide seismic surveillance, real-time volcanic monitoring, early warning and forecast activities. INGV operates in close coordination with the Ministry of University and Research and with Civil Protection authorities, both at national and local level. • The Marine Technology Unit (UTM) operates within the Mediterranean Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CMIMA) and belongs to the Department of Natural Resources of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). The UTM carries out activities for the logistic and technological support of oceanographic vessels Sarmiento de Gamboa, Hesperides and García del Cid, which are interdisciplinary laboratories in operation over 300 days per year, 24 hours per day; and it is also responsible of polar stations, with full management of Antarctic station Juan Carlos I, and logistic support for Antarctic station Gabriel de Castilla. The UTM is consolidated in leading edge innovative research and technological development in different fields of the marine sciences, from geosciences to remote sensing oceanography. CSIC has become actively involved in a significant stake in the future by supporting R+D+I through UTM, which will undoubtedly lead to the definitive consolidation of Spanish marine research.
