International Summer School 

Omics-Techniques and -Analyses of Animal Cell Cultures for Biopharmaceutical Production

The Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) of Bielefeld University, Germany, organizes the “Summer School on Omics-Techniques and -Analyses of Animal Cell Cultures for Biopharmaceutical Production”, which will be held at the CeBiTec from September 26th to September 29th 2012. The Summer School will be conducted subsequent to the conference entitled “Functional genomics in cell culture technology: from sequence to function and application” which is organized by the European Science Foundation (ESF) in partnership with Bielefeld University (BU) and CeBiTec. 

The practical course will be accompanied by method-based seminar lectures for all participants (15). 

Applicants for the summer school should decide in favor of one of the three optional topics of the practical course (each with 5 participants), which  focusses on main “omics”-techniques utilized for the analysis of production cell lines:

• Transcriptomics: RNA-isolation, RNA-seq, microarray – practice, demonstrations and bioinformatics.

• Metabolomics: cell isolation, rapid quenching, metabolite extraction, preparation and derivatisation, metabolite isolation and quantification using state of the art MS based analysis techniques (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS).

 • Proteomics: analysis of protein fractions from CHO-cells – gel-separation, tryptic protein digest, MALDI- and ESI-MS, platform supported database searches
