The main aim of the GPoll programme was to initiate and promote European, multi-disciplinary cooperation in research on pollution of groundwater. It focused on pollution in groundwater systems because of its significance for human and environmental health. This programme wass the first ESF scientific activity to result from the integration of the former European Environmental Research Organisation (EERO) as a subcommittee of the ESF Standing Committee for Life and Environmental Sciences (LEE (formerly LESC)).
