The ESF Programme on Integrated Approaches for Functional Genomics ended in December 2005. A successor to this Programme, Frontiers for Functional Genomics was launched in Spring 2006.
Following the exponentially growing amount of genomic sequence data from the Human Genome project and other related projects, the challenge is now to unravel gene functions from DNA sequence information. This is the new discipline known as "functional genomics". The technologies that are used for this are extremely diverse and integration and networking between European laboratories is essential for the optimal use of resources. More
