Stable Isotopes in Biospheric-Atmospheric Exchange (SIBAE)

Call for Workshop proposals

For information only - the Call for Workshop proposals is now closed.

The ESF programme „Stable Isotopes in Biospheric-Atmospheric Exchange (SIBAE)“ invites workshop proposals on topics related to SIBAE themes. The programme aims to bring together scientists from various disciplines, addressing aspects of biospheric-atmospheric gas exchange using stable isotopes, for joint projects, workshops and other cooperations. It is focussed on three main scientific themes:

  • Understanding stable isotopic signals of the terrestrial biosphere
  • Partitioning net fluxes into their component fluxes
  • Interpreting spatial and temporal variability of terrestrial and atmospheric isotopic signals

SIBAE Workshop Grants are intended to initiate the exchange of knowledge and experiences between researchers from across Europe, to help establish new cooperative links between different disciplines or to develop potential joint research projects. Grants might not cover full workshop costs, thus partnership funding is encouraged.

  • Number of workshop participants: 20 to 40
  • Duration: 2 to 3 days
  • Maximum financial contribution: 20 000 EUR. The grant can be used to cover the costs of workshop activities, travel and subsistence for participants
  • Workshop proposers must work currently in a European laboratory
  • Participants should cover many different countries from across Europe. Attention should be given to issues of gender. The involvement of younger, independent researchers and scholars is required
  • Provided equal scientific quality, priority is given to workshop proposals with proposers and participants from countries supporting SIBAE

Applications should be submitted using the online form below.

Before completing this form, you should prepare the following information:

to be completed online

  • The title, location and dates of the science meeting
  • The name and contact details of the designated contact person (convenor) and any co-organisers
  • A summary budget for the meeting as a whole with the following headings: travel; accommodation; meals; local administrative costs
  • The amount of support being requested from the ESF Programme and the amounts to be covered by co-sponsorship (if any).

to be attached to the online application as one pdf file

  • Scientific summary (max. 1000 words) and Abstract (max. 50-70 words)
  • Meeting programme
  • Curriculum vitae of Scientific Organiser including list of five most relevant publications during the last five years
  • Provisional list of proposed speakers/participants with their fields of expertise to the workshop theme, information on participation of young vs. established scientists

Please note that the SIBAE Steering Committee requests that the description of the planned meeting should clearly indicate the scientific motivation and justification, the relevance to SIBAE themes, and expected results or benefits of the proposed workshop.  The application should also specify (and quantify) if support is being requested for invited speakers/ established researchers/ younger scientists or students.

Application Form

A final report of the meeting (including participants list and programme) will be required from meetings benefitting from SIBAE support.
