The National Science Foundation (NSF) is
an independent federal agency.  Its aim
is to promote and advance
progress in science and engineering
in the United States.

The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE), one of eight directorates in NSF, is the primary source of federal support for fundamental research on human social, cognitive, psychological and economic behavior as well as for research on the intellectual and social contexts that govern the development and use of science and technology. SBE is also responsible for promoting international collaborations for research and education for US scientists and engineers.
