Background to the evaluation
The ECRP scheme was launched in 2001 to promote problem-driven research and to offer an innovative mechanism for European research collaboration in the social sciences. In 2004, after three years of operation, the scheme was evaluated, and, as a result, subsumed into the EUROCORES scheme to allow it to benefit from scientific and administrative support linked to the EUROCORES support contract with the European Commission.
The second cycle of the scheme came to an end in 2007, but it was agreed that the scheme should continue for an interim year in order to allow a second evaluation to be carried out. The results of the evaluation are contained in the present report and fed into the preparation for a third cycle of the scheme beginning in 2009.
