EuroGENESIS Networking Events

Workshop on Open problems and future directions in heavy element nucleosynthesis

The workshop will be held in Debrecen, Hungary, 10-12 April 2013.

The workshop is an official inter-CRP event of EuroGENESIS and is also the third edition of the series of "p-process workshops"  organised before in Garching, Germany, 2009 and Istanbul, Turkey, 2011.

Workshop on Basics and Prospects of CoDustMas, 21-22 November 2011

Workshop on Basics and Prospects of Cosmic Dust as a Diagnostic for Massive Stars took place during 21 – 22 November 2011 in Vienna, Austria, at the Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator. Click here to see the first circular (pdf, 184 kb) or click here to see all events of CRP CoDustMas.

Mini-Workshop on "Stellar modeling: mixing, convection, rotation and mass loss", 2012

The first EuroGENESIS meeting in Dubrovnik was aimed at providing an overview of the different CRP programs as well as at identifying possible connections between different groups. One of the main research topics in EuroGENESIS involves modeling of stars at different stages of evolution. Stars are, of course, multidimensional rotating objects often characterized by mixing (and mass loss) episodes. Different approaches have been adopted to tackle these processes in stars. It is our feeling (probably shared by many stellar modelers) that the expertise achieved in the modeling of, say, massive stars, can help in the modeling of similar processes in other stars or stages, as for instance, in classical novae or AGBs. Therefore, the goal of this mini-workshop is to share/exchange information on different recipies adopted by different groups in the modeling of mixing, convection, rotation and mass-loss (among others) in stars.

The meeting is planned for mid 2012 and will tentatively consist on a two-day workshop. We are planning an attendance of 10-15 researchers from different CRPs. Among the list of potentially interested researches, we can mention M. Busso (CoDustMas), R. Hirschi (Masche), M. Lieberdoerfer (Masche), J. Isern (EXNUC), J. José (EXNUC), A. Chieffi (Masche)...

The Meeting is planned to take place in downtown Barcelona, at the Urgell UPC Campus, where conference and discussion rooms are available for free. Several hotels are available right in front of the UPC building. Public transportation (with buses and a metro station right in front of the building) is also available.

Mini-Workshop on Nuclear Reactions of Astrophysical Interest, 27-29 April 2011

This EuroGENESIS workshop will gather groups interested in reactions of astrophysical importance from both experimental and theoretical viewpoint. The meeting starts on Wednesday the 27th at 15h and finishes on Friday the 29th at 13h. Establishment of synergies and collaborations in the context of planned experimental reaction studies will be discussed. Suggestions from EuroGENESIS groups are welcome.  Detail program and registration information are available via this link:

First EuroGENESIS Workshop

Origins of the elements and nuclear history of the universe

Grand Hotel Park, Dubrovnik, Crotia
24-26 November 2010

About the Workshop

The First EuroGENESIS Workshop on "Origin of the Elements and Nuclear History of the Universe" will take place on November 24-26 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It will bring together specialists in astronomy, astrophysics, nuclear physics, astro- and cosmochemistry. The workshop aims at integrating various existing initiatives to obtain a complete understanding of how matter evolved from the Big Bang to the present abundance pattern. Such integration will be achieved by combining the expertise of theoreticians who model stars, with that of observers who determine chemical abundances using space-borne and ground-based facilities, of laboratory measurements of meteoritic grains, of chemists who study the formation of molecules and dust in stars and their reprocessing in space, as well as of nuclear physicists, who provide information on nuclear processes.

Thematically the workshop reflects the objectives of the European-scale research programme EuroGENESIS  (http://www.esf.org/activities/eurocores/running-programmes/eurogenesis.html), which has been launched this year by the European Science Foundation.

Scientists from outside the EuroGENESIS programme are specially welcome to participate, since one of the workshop’s objectives is to identify topics of common interest with both individual scientists as well as with other European and national programmes. Better interfacing with those other programmes and individual scientists, e.g., via future joint networking events, is among the desired outcomes.

Preliminary Programme

This is a 3 day workshop. First two days will be organised in sessions covering the following topics:

  - Astrochemistry and cosmochemistry: dust and molecules in circumstellar environments, presolar grains
    in meteorites

  - Explosive nucleosynthesis: supernovae, novae, X-ray bursts, and stellar mergers

  - The nucleosynthetic fingerprints of the first stars

  - Chemical evolution and the role of massive stars

  - Nuclear physics of the stars: theoretical and experimental efforts

Day 3 will be dedicated to individual meetings of the collaborative projects within the EuroGENESIS programme. Scientists from outside the EuroGENESIS programme are welcome to participate in those meetings for planning possible joint future events and collaborations. The scientific program will include invited review talks, oral contributions selected from the pool of abstracts submitted, and poster presentations.

Registration, abstracts, deadlines

The workshop has a low registration fee of 100 Euros per day, which includes a full board accommodation in the Grand Hotel Park.

The online registration form can be found here

The deadline for registration and abstract submission is now closed.

Abstracts are to be submitted upon registration as plain text up to 2000 characters including spaces.

Venue, Accommodation, Travel

The Workshop will take place at the Grand Hotel Park, a charming 4-star hotel located at the heart of Dubrovnik (Croatia), offering a breathtaking view of the sea and the Lapad Cove promenade: http://www.grandhotel-park.hr/. Accommodation in this hotel is included in the registration fee.

The recommended form of travel is by air to Dubrovnik airport. Early booking is recommended to save flight costs. Since the workshop starts in the morning of November 24, arrival the day before the conference is strongly recommended. A welcome reception will be arranged in the evening of November 23.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION***

A shuttle will be arranged on Tuesday 23 November. It will leave Dubrovnik airport at 12.45, 16.15 and 23.35. Should some flights be delayed, the shuttle will be waiting for the passengers.

For your information, the participants' rooming list is available here
